What Is a Precinct?
A precinct is a geographic area established for voting and election administration. Counties are divided into individual precincts, and Williamson County currently has 177 precincts.
What Is a Precinct Chair?
A Democratic Precinct Chair is the local Democratic Party leader for that precinct, responsible for building relationships with voters, recruiting volunteers, and strengthening Democratic participation year-round.
The primary role of a Precinct Chair is to connect with, organize, and engage Democratic voters in their precinct. Precinct Chairs also serve as members of the County Executive Committee (CEC), which conducts the local business of the Democratic Party.
Qualifications to Be a Precinct Chair
To serve as a Precinct Chair, you must:
Be 18 years of age or older.
Be a registered voter in the precinct you wish to represent.
Reside in the precinct you wish to represent.
Precinct Chairs are elected by voters in their precinct in the Democratic Primary to serve a two-year term. When a vacancy occurs, it may be filled during the term through the appointment process established by the Texas Election Code and the County Executive Committee.
What Does a Precinct Chair Do?
Precinct Chairs are the local point of contact for the Democratic Party in their neighborhood. They help build relationships with Democratic voters, recruit and organize volunteers, and connect neighbors with opportunities to get involved.
As a Precinct Chair, you’ll play an important role in:
Organizing your precinct and helping turn out Democratic voters in every election
Recruiting volunteers to assist with organizing and growing our party
Registering voters and helping neighbors participate in our democracy
Attending County Executive Committee meetings and party events
Supporting our Coordinated Campaign and working with our nominees
Serving on county party committees
Building relationships with Democratic voters and volunteers by phone banking and knocking doors right here in your community
